Colour correction is only required where foundation won't cover the skin concern. Excessive colour correcting where not needed can look unnatural in real-world situations
The basic idea of colour correction is Neutralising one colour with another. The most common uses of this are for: dark under-eye circles, pigmentation, bruising, sallow-skin...
Simply, you look at the skin concern that you wish to neutralise and determine the colour of it. Visit the opposite side of the colour wheel to find the colour that you need to use to neutralise it.
